MIT科学家找到肥胖者易患癌症真相 中国智造+中国制造功不可没

【侨报记者季婕剑桥市图文报道】 今年,由美国智库评选出的年度“37位可能改变世界的科学家”中不乏波士顿学者,年轻的麻省理工学院(MIT)生物学副教授伊马斯(Omer Yilmaz)就是其中一位。他发表在国际权威学术期刊《自然》上的最新研究成果,找到了肥胖者罹患癌症风险高于常人的原因——干细胞受到刺激,活化了调节新陈代谢的蛋白。本报记者走访了由伊马斯领导的MIT科赫研究所癌症综合研究中心后发现,这个世界尖端的生物实验室,之所以能够为社会输送成功的科研成果,少不了“中国智造”科学家和“中国制造”实验设备的贡献。
侯秀云是科赫研究所的一位实验室经理,来自中国沈阳的她已经在波士顿做了10几年的科研工作。在MIT,她主要负责主持实验室工作,如分配工作任务,采购器材,监管实验用动物、原材料供应和组织培养,可以说是实验室大管家。没有了她,实验室工作可能会乱作一团。
科赫研究所另一张中国面孔郑佳玮是一位年轻的台湾博士后,她在南加大取得博士学位之后,便进入科赫研究所协助伊马斯教授从事癌症相关研究。来美8年,她已在世界顶级期刊杂志上发表了十余篇论文,其论文被引用次数多大500多次,还没到30岁的她已经在世界生物界崭露头角。
科赫研究所除了有“中国智造”人员之外,更有中国企业海尔集团生产的“中国制造”实验设备。作为一个癌症病理学家,伊马斯需要提取、保存、分析大量的生物组织和细胞样本,这些组织和样本都需要被冷藏。伊马斯介绍说,他使用的细胞培养液主要有小牛血清和生长因子等组成,对温度非常敏感,必须储藏在4oC的稳定环境中。其实验室选用的海尔冰箱是中国专利技术成果,智能恒温,能减少内部温度的波动,使得内部环境更稳定,能更好地保护生物组织。该冰箱门上的温度显示屏能够实时监控内部温度,冷冻室超导热管可实现急速冷冻,保持细胞的完整,避免对实验结果造成不必要的干扰。在该实验室的另一个储藏间,本报记者还看到了另一个标著“-20oC”记号的海尔大容量冰柜,据工作人员介绍,它是用于储存大批量未开封的小牛血清等实验材料的,可以延长材料有效期。
虽然这些冰箱都是面向市场供应的家用产品,但伊马斯教授表示,中国制造电器质量完全不输给美国专业实验设备,而且其规格设计(如温度监控)也正符合他的需求。侯秀云也指出,海尔冰箱十分节能,符合实验室的“环保可持续”理念,她为中国产品感到骄傲。
